March boost for Sydney Airport traffic – 29/04/04

AUSTRALIA. Total traffic at Sydney Airport for March 2004 rose +13.2% year-on-year to 1.9 million.

International passenger traffic grew +11.0% to 736,000, driven by the increased numbers of Australian and New Zealand travellers. Last year’s figure was depressed by the war in Iraq, which started in March 2003.

Domestic passenger traffic rose +14.2% year-on-year to 1.5 million. Australian passenger numbers increased by +22.0%.

Passengers from New Zealand rose by +24.0%. Taiwan numbers increased by +14.0%, Japan by +9.0 % and the UK by just +1.0%.

The number of US passengers however declined by -2.0% from the same month last year, as did traffic from South Korea (down -10.0%), and China (-1.0%).
