Dubai Duty Free celebrated its 23rd anniversary with a stunning +66.7% rise in daily sales; Zafir Ademi, from Runway Duty Free in Kosovo, came closest to accurately forecasting the retailer’s daily takings of AED29.5 million |
UAE. Zafir Ademi, Retail Manager at Prishtina International Airport’s Runway Duty Free outlet, is the winner of the Dubai Duty Free Festive Forecast competition, hosted by The Moodie Report.
Readers were offered the chance to win some terrific prizes by forecasting the day’s takings at Dubai Duty Free on 20 December, the retailer’s 23rd anniversary. Sales on the day were a whopping AED29.5 million (US$8.2 million), up +66.7% on the same day in 2005. The figure was an all-time daily high and one that none of our entrants came close to guessing.
Aer Rianta International executive Ademi forecast AED24,693,181, the closest of any estimate. He wins US$500 of Dubai Duty Free shopping vouchers. Ademi has long-standing links with the Middle East, having lived in Kuwait for more than 20 years.
Two of the runners-up were from our large and growing readership among airport authorities.
In second place was Matthew Tan, Senior Manager at Changi Airports International, who estimated sales on the day of AED23.7 million. As first runner-up he wins a ticket to the popular Millennium Millionaire prize draw – which offers ticket holders a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win US$1 million.
The Nuance Group Liquor Category Senior Analyst Alan Chrzaszcz went for AED23.541 million to win one of two tickets in the Finest Surprise draw – offering the chance to win a luxury motor car. He was joined by Stephen Brown of Oman Airports Management Company, who estimated sales of AED23, 232, 232.
