FRANCE/THE NETHERLANDS. Air France-KLM posted a -7.0% fall in passengers for June compared with the same month in 2008, to 6.371 million. In revenue-pax-kilometre terms traffic declined by -6.4% year-on-year.
The airline said that a -5.0% reduction in capacity was insufficient to offset the drop in traffic.
For the year to date passenger numbers were down by -6.2% (see table below).
On the Americas network passengers carried in June declined by -5.5%, while the Asia network remained “difficult”, with a -10.2% drop in passenger traffic despite a significant reduction in capacity (-8.1%).
Traffic on the Africa and Middle East network was flat with capacity up by +2.2%.
The Caribbean and Indian Ocean network recorded a traffic decline of -4.4%, below that of capacity (-7.3%). However, the European network saw a -7.7% decline in traffic with capacity down by -3.9%.
