SPAIN. Leading travel retailer Aldeasa has won a key award for its contribution to Spain’s wine industry. The company won the award for Best Specialist Channel 2010 from trade title Mercados del Vino y la Distribución for its role in helping to promote and grow the industry.

The magazine’s awards aim to recognise and reward the dedication of producers and distributors in the wine industry in Spain.

Currently, Spanish wine represents about 20% of the retailer’s liquor market and this continues to grow. After whisky, wine is the second most important category within Aldeasa’s liquor portfolio.

Aldeasa’s stores feature a range of about 200 Spanish wines ranging in price from €1 to €280 per bottle. Different sizes are also offered from small bottles of 0.187cl up to 1.5-litre magnums.

In the last two years Aldeasa has increased the number of wineries it deals with, enabling it to add new local and regional wines to its range and increase its offering of local products.

The Awards Ceremony was held last week at the Real Casa de Correos, Headquarters of the Presidency of the Community of Madrid. It was presided over by the Minister of Environment for the Community of Madrid Ana Isabel Marino Ortega. General Counsel Pablo Olivera accepted the Award on behalf of Aldeasa.
