MEXICO. Passenger traffic at Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) airports in Mexico fell by -12.8% year-on-year in August, to 1.51 million. ASUR operates nine airports in the southeast of Mexico, including the major regional gateway of Cancún International. Since late April ASUR’s business has been hit hard by the impact of the H1N1 virus.
Cancún Airport handled 1,985,706 passengers in the month, down by -13.2% on August 2008. Cozumel Airport reported a fall of -9.5%, while Merida Airport traffic dipped -11.4%.

International passenger traffic across the group fell by -18.8%, reflecting mainly a -20.2% slump in volumes at Cancún, the largest airport, where passenger numbers hit 753,287.
International traffic at Cozumel fell by -4.4% and at Merida it dipped -15.2%.
