MEXICO. Revenues for Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) soared +31.5% to 511 million pesos (US$44.4 million) year-on-year for the third quarter.
The sharp growth was driven by a strong increase in revenues from non-aeronautical services, in particular, a jump of +93.9% in commercial revenues.
Duty free revenues grew +78.5% thanks to a strong increase in international passenger traffic. The group pointed out that “improved product mix and the opening of a new store in the satellite building of the Cancun airport in November 2003” also helped.
Food and beverage revenues grew +112.4% thanks to three new openings in Cancun during the September 2003 to December 2003 period. Sales were also driven by two restaurants which started operations in May this year.
Retail revenues soared +246.8%, due to a combinatiion of passenger traffic growth, revenues from three convenience stores, new stores at the departure gates of the Cancun airport and new stores in airports including Cancun, Merida and Huatulco.
For the nine-month period ending September, commercial revenues grew +71.7% overall, with duty free revenues jumping +55.15%, food and beverage revenues by +73.9% and retail revenues by +173.1%.
International passenger traffic rose +19.2% year-on-year for the third quarter of 2004, driven mainly by a +31.4% and +18.2% traffic growth in Cozumel and Cancun airports respectively.
The company said: “Higher international traffic at Cozumel, reflects increased flight frequencies by certain airlines, and the start of operations of ATA airlines in December 2003 and American Airlines in January 2004.”
