UK. Edinburgh Airport’s new multi-storey car park, operated by BAA Retail, has been awarded Best New Car Park at the British Car Parking Awards 2005.
Organised by Parking Review Magazine and supported by the British Parking Association, the awards are recognised as the leading showcase for innovative, well-designed and well-managed parking schemes.
The 2,000-space car park is the first of two proposed developments at Edinburgh Airport and was built to meet the requirements of a high mix of business users.
The BAA team responsible for its development worked closely with its partners, including the local council and community, operating partner Meteor, architects, construction teams and passengers. The car park exceeded the judging categories of design, quality, environmental and financial considerations.
BAA Travel Services Director Ronnie Waddell said: “Every aspect of the design and build has been in response to customer research which has helped identify exactly what our customers want; convenience, safety, speed and ease of use. This understanding has had a direct effect upon every aspect of the car park design including best possible functionality, high standards of architectural finish and aesthetic appeal.”
Edinburgh Airport’s Managing Director Richard Jeffrey said: “With passenger numbers at the airport fast approaching 8 million a year, pressure on car parking resulted in the need for this five-floor facility, which is one of a series of new developments taking shape at Edinburgh Airport. Following the achievement of the ParkMark Safe Parking Award in 2004, this award further demonstrates the outstanding achievement for all partners involved in this project and the outstanding BAA consumer car park offering.”
BAA’s Edinburgh Airport is one of the fastest-growing airports in the UK, handling more than 7.8 million passengers a year. Some 40 airlines fly on 80 routes.
