INDIA. Bengaluru International Airport has been recognised as Best Emerging Airport – Indian Sub-continent at the Emerging Markets Airports Awards (EMAA) hosted by Airport Expo, Dubai.
The other nominations in the category included GMR Hyderabad International Airport, Bandaranaike International Airport and Malé International Airport.
The winner was decided following an international poll of industry leaders across the world’s airports.
BIAL CEO Marcel Hungerbuehler commenting on the award win said: “We are thrilled. This award is a showcase of the teams’ hard work and dedication, and personally it is a proud moment for me. It has been only under two years and this airport has received accolades for its operational efficiency on an international level.”
“Our Indian airports are becoming truly international and being at such awards for the very first time is a positive sign. This award is reflective of BIAL’s proactive approach to enhance efficiency in its operations and processes, while ensuring passenger satisfaction. While this award is flattering, it pushes us further to continue with our dedication and sincere efforts in taking this airport to the next level of growth”, Hungerbuehler added.
EMAA Awards’ Raj Menon said that the competition was tough owing to the strong growth within the sector. “In these times when the air travel industry globally is just grappling with the after-effects of recession, it is considered a major achievement for an airport to receive such recognition on a global platform.”
“Bengaluru International Airport was declared the winner post the tabulation of the poll results from industry chiefs and leaders across the world airports. These awards are an excellent tool, allowing airports from across the region and beyond to compete. This will help airports strive to achieve operational excellence and allow businesses and industry leaders to set leads.”
