‘Better moments make the world smile’ – Destination Summer in the EU

The Moodie Davitt Report has launched a new column, ‘Better moments make the world smile’ in association with Mars Wrigley International Travel Retail. In this regular feature we cast the spotlight on memorable human moments from around the world of travel, aviation and travel retail.

The return of travel in Europe – and its positive effect on the mental health of people – is the latest subject for our new ‘Better moments make the world smile’ column, in association with Mars Wrigley International Travel Retail.

This time we focus on a major campaign organised by travel & tourism bodies around Europe – destinationsummer.eu – that aims to bring people back together, to create those ‘better moments’ of human bonding that travel helps to facilitate.

In particular, the evocative video on this page brings those moments beautifully to life. “It’s time to reconnect” people via travel, including travellers and employees working in the industry, is the core message, outlining just how those connections improve people’s mental health and wellbeing.

As reported, the ‘Destination Summer’ campaign is supported by Airlines for Europe (A4E), Airports Council International (ACI), International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the European Travel Retail Confederation (ETRC). Each of the partners is lobbying policymakers to lift travel restrictions across Europe this Summer.

As the destinationsummer.eu website notes, “Travelling is exciting, it’s more than a holiday. It’s about reconnecting with family and friends, enjoying new experiences, introducing us to different smells and tastes, and making memories that will last a lifetime. It is also about taking time out from busy schedules to rest and relax both physically and mentally.” (Safe) travel is a cornerstone of European society and culture; our chosen video (and the wider campaign) to promote the industry’s restart helps to underline why.
