Cambodia Airports breaks through ten million passenger milestone in 2018

CAMBODIA. Cambodia Airports has passed a major milestone, as the three airports it operates have reached the ten million passenger mark in a single year for the first time.

Numbers of international and domestic passengers using Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville international airports by mid-December 2018 were up from eight million just a year ago.

To commemorate the landmark achievement, festivities were held at the three airports.

Staff at Phnom Penh International Airport gather to mark the milestone during a day of celebrations.

Cambodia Airports Chief Executive Eric Delobel said: “Today’s celebrations evolve around the airport community as we want to engage all our partners and to associate them with the achievement.”

Increased traffic at the airports reflects tourism growth in Cambodia, driven by the country’s coastal areas, and a buoyant economy.

Phnom Penh International Airport is the busiest airport in terms of passenger movements and the largest in Cambodia.

Delobel added: “Connectivity and synergies between the three airports have significantly contributed to bringing in more and more passengers to the Kingdom. Passenger traffic has doubled over the last five years and reached this record high of ten million.

“On a global level, we also take advantage of being part of the worldwide network of airports managed by Vinci Airports, our parent company. The business model that Vinci Airports has developed for Cambodia’s airport system has proved relevant and I am confident that it will guide us for future successes.”

Under a public-private partnership with the Royal Government of Cambodia, Cambodia Airports holds the concession for the development and management of Cambodia’s network of international airports. The shareholders are France’s Vinci Airports (70%) and Muhibbah Masteron Cambodia (30%), a Malaysian-Cambodian joint venture.

Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville airports serve more than 55 destinations and welcome 700 regular flights a week.
