Cayman Islands Airports Authority set to call major retail tender

CARIBBEAN. The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) is preparing to call an open tender for all commercial space, including duty free and F&B, at Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA). The move will be “a major step in the airport’s expansion and redevelopment project,” said the authority.

CIAA is currently finalising a Request for Proposals and tender package, which will be released soon to interested parties. The terminal expansion and renovation project is expected to be completed in 2018.

A total of 17 spaces will go to tender. Tenderers will be able to bid on as many spaces as they like, with a separate bid for each space. They will be limited to winning no more than three spaces and no more than one in any of the categories of food & beverage, duty free and other retail. The rent will be based on a percentage of revenue with a guaranteed minimum.

Any business with a licence to trade in the Cayman Islands will be eligible to submit a tender. Eligible businesses which are 60% or more Cayman-owned will receive points in the tender evaluation process, as will existing operators at the airport.

Airports Authority CEO Albert Anderson said: “We want to ensure we have a fair and open process for everyone interested in submitting a proposal, as we strive towards our ultimate vision of giving our passengers the best experience when travelling through Owen Roberts International Airport.”
