Changi Airport to open golf-themed F&B outlet

SINGAPORE. Pitch “˜ n’ Chips, Singapore’s first golf-themed food & beverage concept, owned by Yam Seng Pte. Ltd, has been awarded its first airport contract at Changi Airport, to open by January 2012.

The concession will be operated in a joint venture between King Power Singapore and Yam Seng. The newly formed company, created to handle the airport businesses, is called King Power Yam Seng.

King Power Group (Hong Kong ) Managing Director Antares Cheng said he was pleased with this award – the first F&B venture for King Power in Singapore.

“We are very pleased that Changi Airport has accepted our bid and awarded us this contract,” said Yam Seng’s Karuna Tuli. “Obviously, with our close relationship with King Power, it was a natural choice to work together, and we see great benefits in this. We hope to expand the business further with the joint venture, not only in Singapore but in other airports as well. Discussions in some are progressing well.”

The business started off in downtown Singapore as a golf simulator with a bar and café, called Greens on Screens. The golf-themed café has since been dubbed Pitch “˜n’ Chips.

The airport model is a stand-alone F&B outlet, a kiosk, or one with an integrated golf simulator (pictured).

The concept should prove popular with travellers due to the growing popularity of golf around the world and golf-related travel, the company said.

The concept was developed by Sunil Tuli, Managing Director of King Power Group (Hong Kong), who is also the owner of Yam Seng. It is being run by his son Karan and daughter Karuna.

“I can see great potential for this concept,” said Sunil Tuli. “A golf themed café, a golf simulator to hit a few shots while you wait for your flight, simple “˜club grub’ – it all makes for a very relaxing way to spend time before your travels.”
