China’s 144-hour visa-free policy extends to tourist groups entering Hainan via Hong Kong and Macau

The policy – which took effect on Tuesday (30 July) – applies to passport holders qualifying for visa-exemption policies and agreements signed with China.

Groups of two or more citizens served by legally registered travel agencies in Hong Kong or Macau are permitted to enter Hainan visa-free for a stay up to 144 hours.

Travellers must enter and exit the island with their groups through any of the state-approved ports (including airports). They are limited to the administrative area of Hainan Province, and the stay period is calculated from midnight after entry.

According to the NIA, the policy is aimed at promoting economic development and facilitating exchanges between Hong Kong, Macau and Hainan Free Trade Port.

Looking ahead, the government body will continue to optimise the regional visa-free entry policy to further opening up and development. ✈️
