Dan Cappell still leads Brown-Forman race to the Kentucky Derby

US. Well-known travel retail industry executive Dan Cappell, acting on a personal basis, is still making the running in Brown-Forman’s unique online charity auction, “˜The Ultimate Kentucky Derby Experience’. But there’s still time to top his bid and help a great cause.

As reported, Brown-Forman Travel Retail and Woodford Reserve (“˜The Official Bourbon of the Kentucky Derby’) have joined forces with The Moodie Report Foundation* to offer an extraordinary joint prize of two round-trip Business Class airfares from anywhere in the world to Louisville, Kentucky for the running of the 139th Kentucky Derby on Saturday, 4 May 2013.

Delta Air Lines has generously stepped in to offer its support for the initative.

The auction is open to travel retailers worldwide, including airport commercial departments. The winners will arrive in Louisville on Wednesday, 1 May. On 2 May they will tour Churchill and then the Cooperage. On Friday they will join the fabulous Brown-Forman Derby activities. Departure is from Louisville on Sunday, 5 May.

Dan Cappell is well-known to the industry as Senior Vice President Commercial, Abu Dhabi Airports Company, but his current leading offer was made on a personal rather than corporate basis.

His undisclosed early bid, made within a day of the auction being announced, exceeds the reserve of US$10,000. But there’s plenty of time left to raise the stakes with bids not closing until 15 March.

Further offers should be tabled by e-mail to Martin@TheMoodieReport.com, headed “˜Brown-Forman’s Ultimate Experience’.

Brown-Forman Global Travel Retail Vice President and Managing Director Jim Perry said: “If you are a horse racing fan there is no event more magical then the Kentucky Derby and getting a chance to interact with the horses, see past Derby winners up close and enjoy springtime at our facilities in the beautiful Kentucky countryside.”

The Moodie Report Chairman Martin Moodie said: “This is an amazing donation from Brown-Forman and we’re delighted and honoured that The Moodie Report Foundation will benefit. This really is the trip of a lifetime. The prize would serve as a great incentive or reward for a travel retailer’s management or team. Dan Cappell has his nose in front but the Kentucky Derby has a long closing straight and look out for fast finishers!”
