OMAN. The bid deadline for New Muscat International Airport’s duty free & luxury retail and food & drinks tenders is tomorrow, 1 December. The airport is planned to open in 2017 with an eventual capacity for 36 million passengers.
Oman Airport Management Company (OAMC) said that several submissions have already been made and that it is confident of “attracting some headline operators”.
As reported, OAMC attracted seven qualified bidders for the eagerly anticipated duty free and luxury retail concession, and eight for the food & drinks contract.
For Duty Free & Luxury Retail, the qualified bidders are:-
1. Aer Rianta International Middle East
2. ATÜ Duty Free
3. DFS
4. Dufry
5. King Power Group (Hong Kong)
6. Lagardère Services SAS
7. The Shilla Duty Free
For the Food & Beverage package, the qualified bidders are:-
1. Airest-Lagardère Services SAS
2. BTA
3. Gourmet Foods – Travel Foods Services & Mustafa Sultan Enterprises
4. HMS Host – Autogrill Middle East
5. Jawad International Group
6. MMI (Maritime & Mercantile International)
7. Newrest WACASCO
8. SSP Middle East
At stake are ten-year contracts for each of the packages above, with over 18,000sq m of commercial space available in the terminal.
The Duty Free and Luxury Retail package will offer the successful bidder an area of 5,320sq m to provide core duty free products in addition to luxury fashion & accessories, watches, toys and gourmet foods & confectionery. Food & Drinks offers 3,560sq m of space to the winner.
Decisions on the winning bidders are due in late February.
