Diamond Princess targets Japanese cruisers in US$30 million refit

SINGAPORE. Princess Cruises’ Diamond Princess is being refitted in preparation for a second season of Japanese cruising.

The US$30 million refit will include a remodelled luxury retail offer with dedicated multi-brand boutiques for watches, jewellery, beauty and fashion.

The watch boutique will be anchored by a shop-in-shop from Swatch Group brand Omega, while The Meridian Bay will feature a full Swarovski crystal installation as well as Jacqueline Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn jewellery collections.

For fashion, the Limelight boutique will showcase brands including Burberry, Fendi, Salvatore Ferragamo, Coach and Ralph Lauren. The Essence boutique, covering fragrances and cosmetics, will feature what the cruise company describes as the first fragrance bar at sea.

The 2,670-passenger Diamond Princess begins a season of Japan-based itineraries next month

As part of the dry docking, the ship will also receive a new Japanese bath area and sushi restaurant, a renovated buffet area and additional staterooms, as well as fresh hull paint and exterior refurbishments.

The 2,670-passenger ship will start a season of Japan-based cruises on April 17. The ship will be based in Tokyo for a series of nine-day cruises including visits to Taiwan, South Korea, Hokkaido, Russia and 15 Japanese ports.
