UAE. Dubai Duty Free marked the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival with a celebration and special ‘Golden Week’ promotion.
The celebration was held in Terminal 3’s Concourse B and Concourse C and was attended by Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice President for Commercial Nic Bruwer, along with other Dubai Duty Free officials and staff, and members of the Chinese media.
The Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival is held on the fifteenth day of the eight lunar month in the Chinese calendar during a full moon. “This is the second most significant festival on the Chinese calendar and celebrated not only in China but around the world,” said Bruwer.
Dubai Duty Free’s ‘Chinese Golden Week’ promotion is being held in co-operation with UnionPay International, and offers customers the chance to win a 24k gold coin for every purchase worth AED1,000 (US$272) or more with UnionPay cards (which start with 62). It runs until 10 October.
Some beauty brands popular among Chinese travellers, including L’Oréal, Lancôme and YSL, ran promotions for CTrip customers offering a -15% to -25% discount on selected items.
Other Chinese-themed promotions were rolled out across Dubai International Airport at themed retail areas which offered products popular with Chinese consumers. Traditional Chinese blooming flower imagery and decorative hanging lanterns adorned these areas creating the look and feel of the festival, while some Dubai Duty Free Chinese staff distributed ‘mooncakes’ to passengers. Mooncakes are strongly associated with the festival and symbolise family reunions and best wishes.
