UAE/UK. Dubai Duty Free (DDF) is to sponsor Newbury Racecourse’s two-day Spring Trials meeting, beginning on 18 April. It will be the 13th consecutive year that the airport retailer has been a sponsor of these races.
DDF is supporting seven of the meeting’s 14 scheduled races, including the two “˜Group 3′ events – the Dubai Tennis Championships Stakes and Dubai Duty Free Stakes, a test for 1,000 Guineas contenders.
Last year’s meeting entertained many stars including the successive winners Light Shift and Lucarno, and the well-known veteran Sergeant Cecil, who appears among the mass of potential runners this time around. Other expected high-profile declarations include Tranquil Tiger, French horse Regal and Royal, and the 2000 Guineas-bound Ravens Pass.
Racegoers will be offered a taste of Dubai in the Arabian Marquee, and will also stand a chance of winning an entry into DDF’s Finest Surprise luxury car draw and Millennium Millionaire promotion.
DDF Managing Director Colm McLoughlin said: “Horseracing has become an increasingly important element of our sport sponsorship portfolio, as it enables us to extend our audience reach and showcase Dubai. The convivial atmosphere of the racecourse provides us with an opportunity to entertain existing clients and forge many new relationships.”
He added that this Newbury visit will be “the first of two planned”, as DDF intends to return to the course in September.
