UAE. Passenger traffic at Dubai International Airport rose +25.0% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2004. A total of 5.3 million passengers used the airport during the period.
Devaluation of the US Dollar and the Dirham, which it is linked to, makes Dubai a cheap destination at the moment. The surge in outbound and transit traffic is also helped by the Eidul Adha, the Muslim pilgrimage season, which fell in February 2004.
Sales at Dubai Duty Free rose +44.5% year-on-year to AED 426 million (US$ 115,978,336) over the first three-month period of 2004 – see today’s related story. The number of flights rose +15.6% year-on-year to 46,756.
