GUADELOUPE. Dufry has signed a concession agreement to operate all airside retail space at Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbes Airport in Pointe-à -Pitre for the next five years.
The international airport in Guadeloupe is one of the largest airports in that part of the Caribbean, and served almost 2 million passengers in 2010.
Dufry opened a new 500sq m walk-through shop on 2 February. It includes a full duty free assortment of international products, such as perfumes & cosmetics, liquor, and confectionery, and includes a “superb” selection of local rums and food items, Dufry said.
A duty paid Hudson News shop-in-shop is integrated into the retail space, selling a broad range of books, magazines and newspapers as well as non-publication convenience products such as sweets and travel accessories. Domestic passengers can also buy at Hudson News, as well as selecting from the majority of the assortment in the general store as duty paid products.
Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbes Airport is the first French Overseas airport, the tenth largest in France, and one of the biggest in the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean.
“We are very pleased with the expansion of our presence in the Guadeloupe International Airport, where we had a limited presence in the past,” said Dufry Region Europe Chief Operating Officer Dante Marro. “The ability to manage all the retail space on the airside part of the airport has allowed us to develop the retail space to the latest trends in travel retail.
“The implementation of a walk-through concept adds greatly to the attractiveness of the commercial area. Also, the combination of a duty free format with the Hudson News concept further enhances the concept of cross-selling, and it shows how innovative ideas can add further synergies and value.
“Last but not least, this new agreement also re-confirms Dufry’s interest in its presence in Guadeloupe and its leading position in the Caribbean region.”
