Düsseldorf Airport issues tender for 12 food & beverage outlets

GERMANY. Düsseldorf Airport has opened a tender for 12 food & beverage outlets, including eight spaces in the landside area and four airside. The airport company said it is looking for innovative companies to bid for the opportunities, which are spread over three lots.

In the first lot, two spaces will be awarded to bakeries, with local companies expressly urged to apply. The second lot includes four spaces with different focuses, ranging from fast-food outlets to cafés and restaurants. The third lot has six spaces covering cafés, fast-casual restaurants and snack concepts.

Contract terms will begin in either 2026 or 2027, depending on the location, with a duration of ten years. Some of the outlets will feature in a new F&B area planned for the airport’s Pier C.

Düsseldorf Airport served 19 million passengers in 2023. It is the North Rhine-Westphalia state’s biggest airport and the fourth busiest across Germany.

The airport company said demand from travellers, visitors and employees for culinary offerings is rising, following F&B receipts of €65.5 million (US$70.4 million) last year.

“The aim is to continue to meet passengers’ high expectations of an excellent airport in the future with consistently high quality and attractive offers,” the airport company said. “Quality, variety, individualisation, sustainability, regional products and digital offers are important success factors for this segment, which the airport is now expanding further with the tender – adapting to the constantly growing air traffic.”

Düsseldorf Airport is encouraging applications from both well-known F&B brands and bidders with new concepts. It noted special attention will be paid to ensuring that the future partners continuously optimise their offers and processes and also adapt flexibly to changing customer requirements and demands.
