GERMANY. Düsseldorf Airport has launched a tender for 11 books & press, souvenirs and convenience retail spaces allocated in two mixed lots across the landside and airside zones.
Düsseldorf Airport said it is seeking committed and innovative partners with experience in the retail business which want to shape the future of shopping from 2026 in the terminal and in the boarding gates.
The airport is the largest in North Rhine-Westphalia and served around 19 million passengers in 2023.
The company said: “They are dream customers for retailers: They are in a good mood, full of anticipation for their journey and enjoy spending the time until departure strolling, shopping, eating, and drinking.
“If you want to reach them and other relevant target groups such as pick-up and drop-off passengers, visitors and employees at Düsseldorf Airport, you need to convey appreciation and create an emotional bond.

“Authentic and personalised offers, communication and experiences are required. These range from high-quality and sustainable products and brands to interaction through promotions. Simplified processes through modern technology such as self-checkout tills, which offer an advantage over personal service, are also a must.
“The focus of the concept varies depending on the location in the terminal and in the boarding gates. For example, the airport also opens up the classic book, press and souvenirs segment in line with the current zeitgeist of combining several product ranges.
“In addition, offers such as lottery, convenience food, toys and electronics are possible. Individual product ranges and changing trend products that offer customers new and surprising shopping experiences are also welcome in individual areas.”
The tender is running in parallel with the previously announced food & beverage bid for 12 outlets (eight landside area and four airside). ✈
