Entries and donations pour in for The Moodie Multi-National Marathon

INTERNATIONAL. Fifteen teams have signed up for the Moodie Multi-National Marathon via the official fundraising site, http://moodiemarathon.kintera.org. Over US$11,000 has already been donated.

The Marathon, sponsored by M&Ms, is a unique initiative designed to raise money and awareness for the charity Hand in Hand for Haiti. The Moodie Report requests that the 20 or so other teams who have previously expressed an interest or intention to run officially sign up to the http://moodiemarathon.kintera.org site as soon as possible. There is still plenty of time to start training and enter a team.

The site allows participants to register their team, pledge the US$300 entry fee, set up targets, sponsor other runners and make general donations. There is also a Bulletin Board and a ‘Spread The Word’ e-mail facility. In addition, Enrolment and Sponsorship forms in PDF formats are available to download.

The marathon – to be run in teams of six – will be conducted between 4 and 7 March. Companies are welcome to enter multiple teams. Each team member will run/walk one-sixth of a marathon (7.03km), anywhere in the world, over the course of the four days.

I’ll be honest, the last 500m nearly finished me off. On a scale of one to childbirth, it was pretty close to the latter – and at least they give you drugs for that.

Participants can run on treadmills, track or any terrain of their choice – the more exotic the better. Individuals/teams should be self-timed and sent to The Moodie Report for recording, although the emphasis is on participation and fund-raising, rather than record-breaking performances.

We encourage teams to send in pictures of their efforts, in training and on race day, to be published on The Moodie Blog.

Some great prizes will be on offer, including fastest and most valiant team efforts, best location and best uniform. There will also be a major prize for best fundraising effort.

The teams signed up to date are:
– The ARI World Rovers
– [Ed] Brennan’s Cruisers
– The Beauty Globetrotters (the Lauder group)
– DFS United
– Moodie in Motion
– a stunning six-team entry from Patron (variously titled Gran Patron, Patron Anejo, Patron Citronge, Patron Reposado, Patron Silver and Patron XO Cafe)
– JHA’s (Jonathan Holland & Associates) Asian Tigers
– AMP Trading Middle East
– The TFWA Flying Team
– Essence Corp.

Many of these entries are truly multi-national. For example, the ARI World Rovers team (comprising Domnick O’Reilly, Nick Forbes, John Bolger, Garrett Coogan, Liam Flood and Alan Magan) will run legs in Russia, Ireland, Canada and Barbados. The team has even created its own official logo.

Similarly, JHA’s Asian Tigers team will feature a Brit running in Thailand, with the other legs to be run in South Korea, India, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.
