UK. Luxury candle maker Essence of Harris is to open a new retail unit at Aberdeen International, marking the first time an independent retailer has become an airport partner there.
The store will open tomorrow (10 August) in the airport’s departure lounge. It will offer a range of candles, reed diffusers and soaps and will bring a flavour of the island of Harris in the Outer Hebrides to the mainland.

Essence of Harris is an independent family business and four members of staff will be employed at the airport.
The opening is the latest development in Aberdeen International’s £20 million (US$24 million) terminal transformation project, which aims to create opportunities for both independent and group retailers.
Essence of Harris Managing Director Jamie McGowan said: “As a growing Scottish brand, we are always eager to take our Hebridean products to consumers near and far, and to be in an international hub like Aberdeen Airport was an opportunity we were delighted to accept.
“The newly renovated airport is looking great and being able to showcase our products to people from the North East and all over the world travelling through Aberdeen makes a lot of sense.”

Aberdeen International Airport Retail Coordinator Emma Small commented: “It’s wonderful to have Essence of Harris on board here. It’s the first time we’ve worked with a Scottish independent company like this and really adds to the mix of what’s on offer to passengers at the airport.
“The terminal transformation project is almost complete, and the opening of Essence of Harris is a fantastic milestone on that journey.”
