Fancy a sip? Aperol breaks world record with 1,000 litre glass of Spritz

Larger than life: The giant Aperol Spritz contained 500 litres of prosecco, 333 litres of Aperol, 167 litres of soda water and 15 giant ice cubes

Gruppo Campari’s Aperol brand is officially a world record holder after the largest ever glass of Spritz was created onboard a Costa Crociere cruise ship.

With a volume of 1,000 litres, the Aperol Spritz was created strictly in line with the traditional recipe and has been recognised by Guinness World Records. It is almost twice the size of the previous record size (573 litres), which was set in Italy in 2010.

The record breaking concoction was created as the centrepiece of a cocktail party onboard the Costa Favolosa cruise ship, with more than 1,500 travel agents and 1,500 other guests taking part in a four-day Mediterranean cruise which celebrated the best of Italian food and drink.

The world’s largest Spritz was contained in a classically shaped tumbler measuring 1.5m high and 1.3m in diameter. It contained 500 litres of prosecco, 333 litres of Aperol, 167 litres of soda water and 15 giant ice cubes measuring 18x20cm each. The drink was topped off with a single slice of orange.

“We were delighted to share with Costa Crociere in this innovative venture that expresses the blend of vitality, style and fun that has helped make Aperol the fastest-growing spirits aperitif brand in the world,” said Gruppo Campari Global Travel Retail Director Leigh Irvine.

“The cruise sector is an important channel for our brands and this record breaking activity demonstrates how the strength of our partnership with leading operators such as Costa Crociere can bring engaging new elements to the passenger experience.”
