USA. Travel concessionaire Areas USA has officially reopened the Pompano Beach Service Plaza following a US$16 million upgrade.
The facility, at milepost 65 on the Florida Turnpike, is the first of eight service plazas on the Turnpike being completely remodelled by the company as part of a US$160 million programme.
As reported, the plaza had a soft opening in June and since then all construction has been completed. Dunkin’ Donuts, Wendy’s, Pizza Hut Express, Coca Cola, Sysco, Shell, Red Bull and AAA are among the vendors at the plaza.
During the dedication of the plaza, Areas USA presented a donation of US$2,500 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). In lieu of tips, all food vendor stations at the plaza display donation jars, and every month the donations collected are given to LLS.
Triple Indianapolis 500 champion Helio Castroneves was also a special guest at the opening ceremony.
