GERMANY. Fraport Group will inaugurate the new Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport on 22 April 2026. The company confirmed the date today (8 October) after the project passed the latest inspections, including fire protection.
“This is a very special moment for Fraport and also for me personally,” said Fraport CEO Dr Stefan Schulte. “We held the groundbreaking ceremony for Terminal 3 ten years ago, and today we’re standing in one of Europe’s most advanced airport facilities with our sights set firmly on its inauguration on 22 April.
“My thanks and respect go to everyone who has been involved in the project and also to the responsible authorities, all of which have contributed to the success of this mammoth construction project. I’m already looking forward to welcoming the first guests at Terminal 3.”

In June, Fraport revealed the full list of concessionaires for the 64 retail and service units at the new terminal.
The 12,000sq m retail venue will deliver the “the art of retail in the heart of Europe”, with offerings that reinforce the airport’s role as a global travel hub, said Fraport.
The next phase before opening includes installing the 21 security check lanes, completing work on the food and shopping areas, and testing the baggage handling system.
A comprehensive test operation of the new infrastructure will take place on 21 days between 27 January and 16 April.
In its initial configuration across piers G, H and J, T3 will have capacity for up to 19 million passengers a year.
Fraport Ausbau Süd GmbH (FAS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fraport, has led the construction work. FAS Technical Director Harald Rohr said, “The successful conclusion of this huge project under very challenging conditions sends the strong message that, despite the pandemic, the war in Ukraine and massive disruptions of global supply chains, we’ve succeeded in implementing the new terminal on schedule and on budget.”
Some 57 airlines currently based in Terminal 2 will move to T3 in four phases between mid-April and early June. ✈
