CANADA. HDS Retail celebrated the launch of Pier F at Toronto Pearson International Airport on 30 January by unveiling fresh new designs for its Relay and Virgin brands.
The two Relay News & Gifts stores and two large hybrid stores combining Relay with Virgin Books & Music in Pier F display fresh looks for the brands – including quartz counter tops and quarry tile storefronts – as well as featuring the latest merchandising techniques, such as open-reach beverage coolers integrated in the cash desks.
Oversized graphic treatments depicting ‘fun facts’ about the city of Toronto and the region are designed to give a sense of place and add a humorous touch.
The stores also contain HDS Retail’s new electronic point of sale system, which was developed in close partnership with Fujitsu and features three-second credit card payment approvals, 100% scanning accuracy and user-friendly touch-screen menus.
A fifth Relay location – featuring Grab and Go foods and coffee – will be added in the spring, increasing the total retail area for HDS Retail in Pier F to 10,500sq ft (975sq m). This will bring the company’s total number of outlets at the airport to 35.
HDS Retail is in the process of implementing the new design for Relay and Virgin in several other airport locations – including New York JFK International – through store renovations, and also in new locations including Boston Logan, Montreal Trudeau and Vancouver International.
