HKIA named world’s best airport in survey; Halifax, Dubai, Copenhagen top regional airports – 23/03/

INTERNATIONAL. Hong Kong International Airport has been named best airport overall in the latest annual AETRA survey conducted by Airports Council International Worldwide and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Some 40 airports participated in the survey.

AETRA is a leading airport customer satisfaction programme run jointly by the two associations. It covered 40 airports this year.

The programme is based on a self-completion questionnaire that is distributed to passengers at the departure gate.

The questionnaire covers all aspects of passengers’ on-the-day airport experience, including:

• Navigation at the airport (e.g. flight information screens, signposting, walking distances)
• Airport Services & Facilities (e.g. restaurants, shopping facilities, washrooms)
• Security & Immigration (e.g. helpfulness of staff, waiting time at security inspection)
• Airport Environment (e.g. cleanliness of airport, ambience of airport)
• Airline Services (efficiency of check-in staff, waiting time at check-in queues)

Regional ratings saw Halifax, Canada, named best in the Americas, ahead of Minneapolis, San Diego, Bermuda and San Francisco.

In Europe, Copenhagen, Denmark topped the rankings ahead of Helsinki, Finland; Athens, Greece; Brussels, Belgium and Malta.

Best in Asia was Hong Kong, followed by Seoul Incheon, South Korea; Singapore Changi; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Sydney, Australia. For the Middle East and Africa, Dubai in the UAE topped the league, ahead of Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg, all in South Africa.

Best “Improvement of overall satisfaction” was San Diego, US, followed by Seoul Incheon, Halifax, Kuala Lumpur and Malta.
