HMSHost Europe opens ‘GrabandFly’ at Schiphol – 23/05/06

NETHERLANDS. HMSHost Europe unveiled its sixth ‘GrabandFly’ location at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol this month.

Schiphol’s sixth GrabandFly outlet opened on the G concourse, joining five successful locations on Concourses C, D, E and F.

Due to increasing numbers of low-fare carriers at Schiphol, airport officials and concessionaire HMSHost recognised the need to cater to the continually expanding traveling public. HMSHost Europe Managing Director Walter Seib commented: “The low-fare carriers didn’t offer much in the way of onboard food service, so we worked with the airport to create a food & beverage offering aimed at the needs of their passengers. They want something fresh, fast and portable, so they can carry it easily on to the plane.”

The GrabandFly offers an assortment of sandwiches, hot snacks, pre-packed salads, soft drinks, fresh juices, coffee and tea. Customers can take their selections away in bags designed for easy carrying to the gate or the aircraft.

The concept has been extremely popular with passengers. Seib was pleased with the concept’s breakout performance, stating: “The opening of the very first “˜GrabandFly’ was already a major event for all of us, but we never expected the concept to take off so rapidly in such a short time. We even have plans to extend the “˜GrabandFly’ concept across Europe.”

HMSHost Europe is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Autogrill, the new co-owner of Spanish travel retailer Aldeasa.
