CHINA. Hainan Tourism Duty Free Shopping Complex (HTDF) was named one of Sanya’s ‘Top Ten Culture and Tourism Consumption Benchmark Destinations’ during the recent 2022 Sanya Culture and Tourism Consumption Pilot Series Selection programme awards.
HTDF was the only duty free retailer included in the category. The accolade was bestowed during a ceremony on 30 November at the Sanya Conifer Resort.
The title recognises HTDF’s efforts and success at setting industry benchmarks through the provision of high-quality services and products and a sterling reputation.
Based on an unwavering commitment to integrity and quality, HTDF said it has striven to provide a diverse array of retail offerings and activities to customers, while creating a new cultural tourism trend that is “modern, dynamic and refreshing”.

To boost its allure HTDF is planning to install an immersive lightshow on the façade of the complex. Upon completion, the new attraction will bring more illumination and appeal to Sanya’s night tourism and add to the allure of the Hainan Free Trade Port, HTDF said.
Hainan Tourism Duty Free Shopping Complex is run by Hainan Tourism Investment Duty Free Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hainan Tourism Investment & Development Co., Ltd. Boasting over 95,000sq m of floor space, HTDF is described as a high-end travel retail complex that provides duty free and duty paid retail, F&B and entertainment.

It houses more than 880 international brands across 45 duty free categories, including watches & jewellery, bags, fragrances, cosmetics, consumer technology and wines & spirits. Among them, around 200 brands made their offshore duty free debuts through HTDF.
Since its opening in late 2020, the complex has developed into a “new landmark of duty free retail in Hainan” and, for many tourists, “the first stop of their Sanya travel retail journey”, the award recognised.
HTDF pledged to continue improving its operations, services and brand portfolio, and bring internationalisation and specialisation to the heart of its management approach.
Leveraging the opportunities presented by Hainan’s development into an international tourism and consumption hotspot, HTDF said it plans to strengthen its retail foothold and leadership position.
It pledged to sustain its emergence as a world-class travel retailer and keep contributing to the high-quality development of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
