Canadian ice hockey hero Wayne Gretzky made a special appearance at The Nuance Group’s stores in Toronto Pearson Airport to support the launch of his prestigious line of Wayne Gretzky Estates icewines.
During the event, which took place on 26 June 2012, customers sampled the wines, participated in a rare photo opportunity and had icewine bottles autographed by the former ice hockey player dubbed “The Great One”. They were among the first to purchase the newly released Wayne Gretzky Estates icewines.
“It was fantastic to meet a truly great hockey legend and one of Canada’s most iconic people, both for the team as well as customers,” said The Nuance Group North America CEO Richard Rendek.
“Wayne Gretzky’s appearance caps off a very successful promotion that has exceeded sales expectations and grown the overall icewine category.
“We (The Nuance Group, Toronto Pearson Airport and Wayne Gretzky Estates) are all very pleased with the results and look forward to the continued success of this truly Canadian brand.”

While at Toronto Pearson Airport, Wayne Gretzky had an opportunity to play NHL Slapshot on Wii, part of the interactive display in-store.
While playing the game with Wayne, Rendek joked: “This is my only chance of having an even playing field in hockey with Wayne.”
Ice hockey star Wayne Gretzky is considered one of the world’s elite athletes. He has won four Stanley Cups while setting 61 scoring records, and has scored more goals than anyone who has ever played the game.
