BELGIUM. Belgian cigar producer Ets Vandermarliere NV, which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, officially changed its name to J Cortès Cigars on 1 January 2006.
According to the company, the decision is a “vital part in the renewed and future communications strategy”. It said: “With more than 88% of the total production being exported, the new name is a perfect reflection of the international vision that characterises the company and that has been a key factor to its success for years now.”
Besides the famous J Cortès brand, the company also produces the quality cigars Fuego, Neos and Amigos. The broad range of products is exported to over 80 countries.
Last year, J Cortès Cigars enjoyed “excellent” sales figures. After the exceptional growth of over +20% in 2004, the company posted a “nice increase” of +3% in turnover last year.
