Jean-Baptiste Morin steps down as President of HDS Retail North America; Gerry Savaria promoted to top role – 10/05/07

Under Morin’s leadership HDS Retail has recently modernised the look of its flagship Relay brand


NORTH AMERICA. HDS Retail North America President and CEO Jean-Baptiste Morin is to step down from his position effective 13 July, to be replaced by highly respected Executive Vice President Business Development Gerry Savaria.

Morin, who is also CEO of Hachette Distribution Services (Canada) Inc, returns to Europe and to a senior post within the HDS Group.

Savaria is in his 17th year with the company. He joined HDS Retail Canada in 1997 as Vice President Press, and was promoted to the position of Executive Vice President Press and Books Merchandising when HDS Retail’s US and Canadian operations merged together in 2000.

In 2004 he took over the responsibility for business development initiatives. Prior to joining HDS Retail, Savaria worked as Sales Director for LMPI, HDS Retail’s sister company based in Montreal, Quebec.

Morin said: “I have worked to strengthen HDS Retail and make its organization more efficient, committed to deliver the best service. Gerry’s experience, his knowledge of the industry, as well as his leadership will contribute to HDS Retail’s future development.”
