Leaderboard drama in The Great ARI Moodie Davitt Euros Contest

EUROPE. The Great ARI Moodie Davitt Euro 2016 Charity Competition is warming up nicely with lots of movement at the top of the leaderboard after Round 1.

Round 2 starts today (entrants please submit your scores) in the match prediction competition, sponsored by Aer Rianta International (ARI), in association with The Moodie Davitt Report. The contest celebrates the UEFA Euro 2016 football championships, which started on Friday 10 June.

It’s easy to enter and will see the following prize monies awarded to the chosen charities of the winning entrants.

  • 1st– €3,000
  • 2nd– €2,000
  • 3rd– €1,000

The rules are simple – and it’s still not too late to enter as there’s plenty of chances to catch the early pacemakers.

All you have to do is visit http://bbc.in/1UpI3nC or http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/predictor and quickly register your details (after that you simply sign in each time) – you can use a nickname though we suggest you use your name and company reference (e.g. Martin Moodie Davitt; J Jones ARI etc.) so we can track our ‘leader board’ over the weeks of the tournament.

NOTE: When you are asked for a pin number, here it is – k9ep0n

We have created a special ARI/Moodie Davitt league – if you’re having any problems registering just e-mail Martin@MoodieDavittReport.com

You can enter at any time but the earlier you do the better your charity’s chances.

Over the course of the tournament you get 10 points for predicting the overall outcome correctly (e.g. Wales to beat Slovakia; or Russia to draw with England), and 40 points for an exact result (e.g. correctly guessing Germany to beat Ukraine 2-0).

After the first seven matches, Adrian ‘COYBIG’ (understood to be from ARI) leads with a very smart 220 points as early pacemaker Nico from DFS drops back to third with 170, equal with industry veteran Martyn Westbury (Head of Sales at UK travel retail agency Newthing).

And look who’s moved into second place with 180 points. It’s Mr Monti! Is this an industry executive’s pseudonym or could this really be the Mario Monti, the Italian bureaucrat who killed off intra-EU duty free in 1999 (and who later became Prime Minister) belatedly trying to ease the debt crisis? Could he salvage his ruined travel retail reputation by winning our competition for a good cause and turn into Super Mario? Watch this space.

Advertising Director Connie Magner with an excellent 140 points heads an otherwise hapless Moodie Davitt Report contingent, followed by Digital Content Manager Declan (son of Martin) Moodie with 120, while Chairman Martin Moodie languishes like an old intra-EU duty free shop frontage in 17th place on 90. All that is about to change however with Moodie Senior waging his house on a 1-1 draw today between Russia and Slovakia.
