SOUTH KOREA. Lotte Duty Free has partnered with French beauty and wellness brand L’Occitane to raise KRW34.5 million (US$30,000) for the Seoul Green Trust in celebration of Earth Day on 22 April.
A donation ceremony was held at Lotte Duty Free’s flagship branch in Myeong-dong, Seoul this week. It was attended by Lotte Duty Free Head of Marketing Lee Sang-jin; Lotte Duty Free Head of Product Department Lee Young-jik; L’Occitane General Manager Ahn Seon-hee; and Seoul Green Trust Executive Director Lee Han-ah.
The donation was the result of a customer-participation campaign hosted through March at L’Occitane’s Myeong-dong boutique in the Lotte Duty Free store.
The mechanism involved customers generating a donation of US$1 for every purchase of L’Occitane’s flagship product, Shea Butter Hand Cream. An impressive 30,000 skus were sold during the period.
To commemorate Earth Day, the funds are being used to create ‘Green Kits’ – home gardening sets comprising five kinds of herb seeds including lavender and basil; pellets to help plants sprout easily; and pots made of eco-friendly materials.
The Seoul Green Trust plans to deliver 1,000 green kits after receiving an application from a Seoul social welfare institution that works with the mental health of the socially disadvantaged who are vulnerable to COVID-related depression.
Lotte Duty Free is practicing eco-friendly management under the slogan of ‘Duty 4 Earth’ as part of Lotte Group’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality in 2040.
In June 2021, the travel retailer replaced a bonded transport vehicle with an eco-friendly electric version – a first for the duty free industry. And last November it installed solar power facilities at the company’s logistics centre in Yeongjong Island, thereby reducing carbon emissions by about 630 tonnes per year.
In line with its eco-friendly commitment, the retailer is also reducing about 200 tonnes of plastic waste per year by introducing bio-material cushioning materials and eco-friendly paper shopping bags. Additionally it is eliminating waste of about 1 million paper receipts per year by replacing them with smart receipts.
