URUGUAY. The Government has introduced a number of modifications aimed at increasing interest for the concession to operate Montevideo’s Carrasco international airport, Corporacion Nacional para el Desarrollo (CND) said in a statement.
The CND will re-tender the shares of Puerta del Sur, the airport’s current concessionaire, on 25 June on the Montevideo Stock Exchange. The CND is a private entity that helps support and manage projects that promote investment in Uruguay.
The purpose of the bid is for a contractor to provide all airport and non-airport services including retail activities for a 20-year period through private investment. During this new stage the airport will have an area under the Free Port system, allowing it to strengthen logistics activities.
The changes involve deferring for one year the start of most terminal and other construction works, estimated at 60% of the project’s estimated US$100 million investment. The new terminal plan is also modified in size, to a capacity of 1.3 million passngers per year.
The incoming operator will also have the option to amortize the intangible property it owns as concessionaire of the airport over a three-year period or above.
