China travel retail boost: In a key development, China’s State Council announced on 28 June that it will reduce international quarantine days to ‘7+3’ (seven days in a dedicated quarantine facility and three days of home monitoring) from the long-standing ‘14+7’ requirement. Hitting the headlines: China Tourism Group Duty Free Corp (China Tourism Group) – parent company of the world’s largest travel retailer, China Duty Free Group (CDFG) – relaunched its application for a secondary listing on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong on 30 June. Paying rich dividends: Hainan’s enhanced offshore duty free shopping has generated sales of CNY90.6 billion (US$ 13.55 billion) since it was introduced on 1 July 2020, according to a report from Hainan Daily. Click here for our WeChat story and here for our original English version.

Eyewear focus: Rodenstock has strengthened its collaboration with China Duty Free Group with two stand-out, high-profile promotions in Hainan. The activations, at the CDF Mall within the Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex in Haitang Bay and Haikou International Airport, feature the latest eyewear collections from Rodenstock and Porsche Design. A new travel retail superforce? Autogrill announced on 28 June that it is in “ongoing discussions without any exclusivity” with Dufry regarding a possible “integration” between the two groups.
