UAE. In a first for travel retail media, The Moodie Report is on location in Dubai to bring you real-time coverage of Dubai Duty Free’s 30th anniversary on 20 December, through our ground-breaking Moodie Live service.

In association with William Grant & Sons, The Moodie Report Chairman Martin Moodie is bringing you around the clock coverage of the anniversary as it unfolds, streamed live to www.TheMoodieReport.com as it happens. We’re featuring pictures, podcasts, video and words, all designed to capture the spirit and excitement of this milestone event in Dubai Duty Free’s rich history.

As reported, Dubai Duty Free is aiming to exceed last year’s anniversary day sales of AED76.91 million (US$21 million) on Friday. [Update: By 2pm Dubai time on anniversary day that figure had already been exceeded, putting the company on course for close to US$30 million in daily sales.]

The anniversary day could mark a new “sales milestone”, the company said, when it extends discounts of up to -30% across a wide range of merchandise throughout the 24-hour period. The discount offer will run from midnight on 19 December to midnight 20 December, for all departing and arriving customers at Dubai International Airport and at Al Maktoum International Airport – Dubai World Central.

Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice Chairman Colm McLoughlin said: “This is a major milestone for the operation and we want our customers to celebrate along with us and to thank them for supporting us for the past three decades.

“Also on the anniversary day, we have identified and sourced seven different products which we will sell at 1983 prices and that’s just something special for our customers.”

As part of the 30th anniversary celebrations, Dubai Duty Free will create a party-like atmosphere. Plans are in place to conduct a Millennium Millionaire, a Finest Surprise Luxury Car draw plus the final “˜Shop and Win’ draw, a competition which ran for 30 days leading up to the anniversary day with the prize of a 30g gold coin being won each day.
