GERMANY. Munich Airport handled nearly 23.2 million passengers in the third quarter, an increase of +7% year-on-year, and created an all-time monthly high in September
The quarterly performance matched Munich’s annual figures for the entire year of 2002. In September over 3 million passengers were handled in a single month, the first time that threshold has been reached.
The number of commercial take-offs and landings increased by +3% during the first nine months of the year to just short of 300,000 flights.
“Bavarian air traffic hub remains one of the growth engines for Europe’s aviation sector,” said Munich Airport President and CEO Michael Kerkloh.
Strong intercontinental traffic drove the increase. This segment showed increases of +50%, particularly on routes to and from China and India.
In European traffic, which showed an increase of +9% in the first three quarters, high growth rates were posted on routes to Italian destinations and the CIS states.
