UK. Raven Fox announced today that James Featherstone, the newly-appointed Editor of Duty-Free News International, is to leave the company. He took up the role in July.
Raven Fox Managing Director Paul Kelly said: “James has a very strong background in financial and trade journalism and we wish him the very best for the future. For now, the responsibility for editing the magazine will be shared by Deputy Editor Tina Milton and Asia Pacific Editor Gavin Lipsith.”
Kelly added: “Since its launch in 1987, DFNI magazine has responded with change to readers’ demands for faster news delivery and more accessible content. Time and technology have continued to march on and a digital publishing revolution is upon us. Readers have become even more demanding in their requirements and it is time for us to respond again.
“We will shortly be announcing a number of changes to the publishing package from Raven Fox; exciting changes that I believe will consolidate our position as the number one media business in the duty-free and travel-retail industry.” The latter is a likely reference to the traditional fortnightly frequency of DFNI, the one-time market leader in advertising terms, which has declined sharply over the past five years in the face of increased competition. The fate of the company’s secondary title Travel Retailer International which has been reduced in frequency in recent times, is also known to be under the microscope.
[Note: The Moodie Report assumed clear leadership in like-for-like print issue terms last year, building on its dominant position in the electronic media – Ed].
