Northwest’s April traffic up +16% – 06/05/04

US. Passenger traffic at Northwest Airlines soared +16% this April against last April, but managed to creep up only by +0.9% against pre-SARS and the pre-Iraq war period of April 2002. And compared to the levels in 2000 and 2001, this result was down -10%.

Northwest’s passenger traffic is measured in the number of miles flown by paying customers, and it registered 5.9 billion revenue miles this April.

When broken down into sectors, international traffic had gone up by +26.9% last month compared to April 2003, Pacific traffic by +31.3% and Atlantic traffic by +20.2%.

Load factor had increased by +8.3% to 80.2% this April, against last April’s 71.9%. But the airline, which is the main US west coast to Asia carrier, continues to fly less than previous years, and in some cases, uses smaller aircrafts to decrease its capacity.
