Oh really, it’s O’Reilly! Bahrain Duty Free man boosts lead in FIFA World Cup Charity Competition

INTERNATIONAL. Bahrain Duty Free Head of Operations Domnick O’Reilly remains at the top of the league in The Great Moodie Davitt 2018 FIFA World Cup Charity Competition, with the spectacular football showpiece now well under way in Russia.

The competition is brought to you in association with King Power International (Thailand), which controls English Premier League club Leicester City.

As reported, O’Reilly – clearly freed from the burden of worrying about how Ireland will perform at the World Cup (they didn’t qualify) – led with an excellent 16 points as the first round of matches neared its conclusion.

And yesterday he consolidated that position, roaring ahead to 25 points, just ahead of Cabeau’s surging Denz Van Der List (top ten below, we’ll bring you a full leaderboard later in the morning once our football correspondent Hedda Ball recovers from her all-night celebrations of England’s 2-1 victory over Tunisia.

PREVIOUSLY…

Market Square’s Johan Schölvinck – another whose home country (Netherlands) didn’t make it – has taken solace in trying to pick an alternative winner, was running second yesterday with 15 points (see table below) but slipped to fourth overnight.

There’s a strong WHSmith presence in the field, with Craig Pring, Alexander McCann and Spencer Sheen all in the top half of the table, while former ARI CEO Jack MacGowan has performed creditably, and lies in a solid 18th place.

Lagardère Travel Retail Axel Gauthey Executive Vice-President Business Development is struggling to match France’s winning start (he’s on 5 points) but he’s still doing better than Martin Moodie and Dermot Davitt, both off to sluggish starts that suggest they would both be better off sticking to the rugby.

Still, if you’re not in you can’t win: ARI’s Sue Kelly and Philip Eckles (0 points) really should get some predictions in before the next round starts…

Our match prediction contest is easy to enter, sure to engender tremendous engagement within the travel retail community and has a strong Corporate Social Responsibility connection.

Updates will be posted regularly, showing who is leading the way as the tournament progresses and reminding people to submit their predictions before each round.
