The airport operator is seeking proposals for opportunities in the new Domestic Terminal for food & beverage, news and books, convenience, gift and other specialty products, with trade to commence in early 2013. It is also requesting proposals for tourist information, telecommunications, news and books and convenience in the revamped International Terminal where such operations are scheduled to commence late this year.
“We are keen to attract a varied and interesting range of brands suited to the Western Australian passenger market,” said Chief Executive Officer Brad Geatches.
“The retail spaces in the new Domestic Terminal and the expanded International Terminal will provide concessionaires with good exposure and space to creatively present their product or service.”
Over the past seven years, the number of passengers travelling through the facility has doubled to 12 million in 2011, making Perth Airport the fastest-growing capital city airport in Australia.
Importantly, intra-state passenger movements increased by +13.6% year-on-year to 3.1 million, driven predominately by the State’s resource sector employment needs.
NEW DOMESTIC TERMINAL OFFERS COMMERCIAL OPPORTUNITIES
The new Domestic Terminal opens early next year, next to the current International Terminal. It is the first in a series of major projects that will “completely transform” Perth Airport, said the company, delivering more than 50 new retail outlets over the next three years.
“With the increasing demand for fly-in fly-out workers in regional Western Australia, it is essential the airport provides a relevant retail offering that represents value for money, choice and impeccable customer service,” Geatches said.
As the first new terminal to be built in Perth for over 25 years, the new domestic terminal offers an “outstanding opportunity” for re-tail concessionaires, the airport operator noted.
The terminal has been designed to ensure efficient passenger processing and easy navigation through the terminal, so that passengers have a greater opportunity to relax and enjoy the food, beverage and retail offering before flying.
“The new terminal will provide a relaxed and stress-free environment for customers and offer a high-quality experience,” Geatches commented.
All retail spaces in the new terminal are located in high traffic areas to capture the customers’ attention. In the check-in and baggage reclaim areas, the opportunity also exists for retailers to attract customers from those meeting and greeting passengers as well as airport staff.
In the spacious departures area, retail outlets are located in close proximity to the departure gates and have high exposure to both arriving and departing passengers, as well as the meet-er/greeter/fareweller market.
INTERNATIONAL EXPANSION TO HAVE ENHANCED DUTY FREE OFFER
Next month, construction will commence on the transformation of the current International Terminal, which includes an expanded arrivals hall with a landside retail offer, and a much larger Arrivals duty free store (the current contract is held by The Nuance Group). Perth Airport is also seeking proposals for tourist information, telecommunications, news and books and convenience, with trade scheduled to commence in late 2012.
NEW DOMESTIC PIER
Perth Airport will be seeking submissions early in 2013 from retail brands for the new domestic pier, which will be constructed at the western end of the current International Terminal.
This “futuristic, state-of-the-art designed pier” will become home to Virgin Australia in 2014, and will provide exceptional retail opportunities, the company said.
“Consistent with our terminal layout strategy, the pier will provide a central retail hub of approximately 1,700sq m with close proximity to boarding gates to ensure an optimal customer experience.”
