Revlon prepares to relaunch ColorStay – 10/11/05

INTERNATIONAL. Revlon is maintaining its inflight momentum with new and additional listings onboard key carriers worldwide.

For example, the company’s new Unforgettable Eyes set (The Moodie Report.com, 9 September) has already been listed by Saudi Arabian Airlines and Thai Airways. US Airways has also listed two Revlon sets.

“It’s all about dollar volume,” Managing Director Global Travel Retail Art Miller told The Moodie Report. “Our lipstick sets retail at US$36 – and we are number three overall onboard Virgin Atlantic. The business is handled by Tourvest and we’re on all 21 planes.”

But Revlon has secured important ground shop openings too. “We are back in the two main shops at Hong Kong International Airport, with Nuance-Watson Hong Kong,” confirmed Miller.

“That is big news for us. We are a good fit within (Nuance-Watson’s) mix. We round out the offer, and they see good opportunities at our price points.”

Miller continued: “Elsewhere, our operation at Dubai Duty Free continues to be big, with sales up +35%. We have the space there, 8m, to properly present our offer. It’s a classic Revlon presentation, with something for everybody. It’s very comprehensive.”

At the recent TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes, the company presented its revamped Unforgettable Evening Out set, which features the new Revlon “gold wedding band packaging” and a more compact size.

“We will introduce two new gift coffrets in 2006,” revealed Miller. “We will show mock-ups in Fort Lauderdale, and launch at the end of the first half.”

In other news, next year Revlon will relaunch its ColorStay franchise with new products and revamped packaging.

A new version of ColorStay foundation, with SoftFlex technology, will be introduced from January. The line will still offer long-lasting coverage, but with a lighter, more comfortable feel.

The foundation will come in two versions: one for normal/dry skin, and one for combination/oily. To aid ease of selection, the packaging will feature colour-coded caps which also emphasise the SoftFlex technology.

New for 2006 is ColorStay Active foundation. Like its predecessor, it provides long-lasting wear, but lighter, sheer coverage. It is said to be sweatproof and contains an SPF25.

New for lips next year, launching in June, is ColorStay Soft and Smooth Lip Color. Also containing SoftFlex technology, the line is said to deliver long-lasting, comfortable coverage with no “flake and cake” effect.

The lipsticks will be presented in a clear, acrylic case which displays the colour inside. The line will be available in 36 shades, including six sheers.

Lastly, in January, Revlon will introduce Luxurious Lengths Mascara. The product is said to make lashes look up to 50% longer and 50% curvier.

The mascara features a SmoothGel formula, said to help colour glide on from root to tip. The product, available in three shades, incorporates a special brush which is flat on one side and curved on the other.
