São Paulo gears up for timely Brazilian workshop on travel retail

BRAZIL. With one week to go until the first Brazilian Workshop on Travel Retail, organising company Sator reports strong interest from industry players.

The all-day event takes place on 25 April at the Transamérica Expo Center in São Paulo as part of the three-day Airport Infra Expo (AIE) show.

The show’s centrepiece is the International Fair of Latin America Airport Infrastructure (24–26 April), alongside a Latin American Airport Infrastructure Seminar (25–26 April).

Brazil’s partial privatisation of four airports since late 2011 makes the Workshop on Travel Retail a timely meeting ground for travel retailers exploring openings in Latin America’s leading economy.

Brazil’s airport authority Infraero, civil aviation agency ANAC and major duty free concessionaire Dufry will all make presentations at the workshop.

The roster of international presenters includes World Duty Free Group International Director of Operations Pedro Castro, ASUTIL Secretary-General José-Luis Donagaray, Grupo Wisa Commercial Director Marcelo Montico and Portland Design Director of Environments Lewis Allen.

The Moodie Report is the exclusive travel retail media partner for the fair. Peter Dowling, The Moodie Report’s Senior Editor Asia Pacific, Latin America, will moderate the first session of the workshop, examining different management models for major international airports.

All go for privatisations
Brazil’s national civil aviation agency ANAC has rejected the appeal lodged by the Novas Rotas consortium against the privatisation of Viracopos Airport (Campinas), which was won by Consórcio Aeroportos Brasil (Brazil Airports Consortium).

As reported, the appeal had delayed the approval of the recent partial privatisation of Viracopos, Brasilia and the nation’s busiest airport, São Paulo Guarulhos.

The concession contracts for the three airports are now due to be completed by 25 May 2012.
