Seven consortia line up for Madrid and Barcelona privatisations

SPAIN. Seven groups have lined up for the privatisation of Madrid and Barcelona airports, according to the Spanish Development Ministry.

At stake is a 90.05% capital share in the concession companies that will manage and develop each airport. The government aims to raise €5 billion from the process.

The Madrid-Barajas bid has attracted six consortia.

These include:
• Ferrovial with, Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board European Holdings, MFI Investments Luxembourg and Infinity Investments SA
• GMR Infrastructure Limited
• Changi Airports International, FCC Construction and Siemens Project Ventures
• Aéroports de Paris, Ilex and Az-Gip Argos
• Fraport with Global Oresme SLU, Global SLU Lubbock SLU and Buridan SLU
• Grupo San José with SA Cedicor and Global Miróbriga

The list of bidders for Barcelona comprises the first five names, with the addition of Abertis Airports with Borealis and Ibervías.

Both airports will be operated by private companies for 20 years, with an option for a five-year licence extension. Short-lists will be drawn up in coming days before full financial bids are submitted. The government is aiming to award the licences by the end of November.
