Singapore Airlines November load factor dips; Moscow route begins March – 15/12/05

SINGAPORE. Singapore Airlines has revealed that its passenger load factor fell slightly to 74.9% during November from 75.4% a year earlier, as capacity rose by +2.8%.

The company said that there were declines in passenger load factors from last year’s level on routes to some regions in November, but buoyant demand for Singapore-US services supported the growth in the passenger load factor to the Americas region.

“The addition of flights on existing routes over the past year to Beijing, Fukuoka, Taipei, Hanoi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Penang and Perth contributed to the capacity increase,” the carrier said.

From 30 October frequencies were also added to Bangalore and Taipei, and a new four-times weekly service began to Hyderabad in India, it said.

In other news, Singapore Airlines will start flying to Russia in March with the launch of a service to Moscow. The airline will fly three times a week via Dubai, using Boeing 777-200 aircraft.

The service will enhance business and leisure ties between Russia and Singapore, the airline said. “Russia is a growing trading partner with the region,” it added.

Announcing plans for the Russian service last October, Singapore Airlines’ General Manager in Russia Jayaraj Shanmugam said Russians were increasingly drawn to exotic Asian holiday spots such as Phuket and Hanoi, routes already served by the Singapore Airlines group.
