IRELAND. Travel food specialist SSP has introduced five brands at its newly opened street food-themed dining zone, The Mezz, at Dublin Airport Terminal 2.
As reported, the new concept offers a diverse mix of F&B options, from traditional Irish flavours and international food choices, as well as new brands developed by SSP.
Camile Thai serves Thai dishes made using fresh, local ingredients, with sustainability in mind. Its menu includes Mango Rainbow and Berry Rainbow granola bowls, Thai Fry breakfast and its bestselling dishes such as the Camile Signature Spice Bag and Crispy Chilli Chicken.
Offering what has been dubbed ‘Ireland’s best burger,’ Galway-based Handsome Burger features its popular menu items including its Handsome Burger. It is made with a hand-rolled beef patty, sticky onions, pickled cucumber and rocket on a Coughlan bun served with rosemary and sea salt fries. Breakfast choices such as a smashed hash brown, cheese and egg muffin are also available.
Erin’s Kitchen is a brand developed by SSP especially for the airport, featuring classic comfort food. Its menu is inspired by local recipes including slow-cooked pulled ham hock with creamy mash and shredded cabbage, served alongside roasted root vegetable and gravy. Another item on offer is a classic Irish breakfast with black pudding, white pudding, potato and farl.
Mexican-inspired dishes come from the Ancho Hancho brand. It offers breakfast burritos and rice bowls that are made with pinto beans, pico de gallo, guacamole and more, along with customers’ choice of pulled beef, chicken or roasted vegetables.
Aside from the food concepts, the Mezz houses a bar with an array of locally brewed beers. It also serves coffee options from specialty Irish coffee roasters, Badger & Dodo who source from a selection of 85+ curated coffees.
The dining space uses a striking 31m digital banner (developed with digital signage experts Trison) which is described as one of the longest in Europe. It uses over 3.5 million pixels to deliver visually stunning displays that showcase menu items from each of the brands.
The Mezz is equipped with digital kiosks that allow customers to order from each of the brands in one, convenient place.
DAA CEO Kenny Jacobs said: “The new food offerings in The Mezz are already going down extremely well with the 100,000+ passengers that are flying in and out of Dublin Airport every day at the moment. The Mezz is an exciting new addition to Terminal 2 and we’ve launched it, in close partnership with SSP, based on feedback from passengers and what they want to see in the terminals at Dublin Airport.
“These five exciting new additions give passengers an incredible amount of choice before they fly, with menus packed full of interesting food and drink options. The opening of The Mezz is the latest example of our ‘Better Dublin’ improvement plan in action, which is improving standards for passengers, including the food and drink offering in both terminals.
“We are delighted to work with SSP to bring The Mezz to fruition and passengers can look forward to even more exciting changes and enhancements coming soon.”
SSP UK & Ireland CEO Kari Daniels added: “At SSP, we take great pride in meeting and exceeding our customers’ needs. These new units represent the best of Dublin, from local flavours to innovative brand favourites, providing a truly authentic F&B experience for travellers coming through the international travel hub that is Dublin Airport.
“The digital solutions we’ve developed for The Mezz will allow guests to easily access items across a number of excellent F&B offerings in one place, which we think will be particularly well-received by families and groups travelling together, as we’ll offer something for everyone, no matter their preference.” ✈
