SPAIN. SSP has opened three new outlets – Caffè Ritazza, Upper Crust bakery and Tropical bar – at Gran Canaria Airport, as part of operator AENA’s ongoing refurbishment programme at the hub.
The bar, which was created in co-operation with local brewery Compania Cervercera Canaria, is located landside in arrivals, replacing an existing outlet. Meanwhile the Caffè Ritazza and Upper Crust bakery are both located airside.
“Many passengers using this airport arrive early on coaches, and we also have a larger number of visiting coach drivers and other meeters and greeters,” said SSP Spain Managing Director Blanca Ripoll.
“Our new airside offer has been designed to give customers somewhere to relax and enjoy the time before their flight, while our landside bar will cater for those who are waiting to meet passengers.”
The new outlets were opened as part of a major refurbishment by AENA. Later this summer, they will be further augmented by a new outdoor smoking terrace, which will be part of the Caffè Ritazza located in the check-in hall.
An AENA spokesperson said: “As the only airport on Gran Canaria, it is important that our airport offers passengers a warm welcome and leaves them with pleasant memories. Our new cafés and bars will do much to make a visit to this lovely island even more enjoyable.”
SSP has operated at Gran Canaria since 1994, when it won its first contract on the island.
